THE VERSATILE BLOGGER AWARD NOMINATION
The Versatile Blogger Award is a pay-it-forward award for bloggers to acknowledge other up and coming bloggers who are both awesome at what they do and show a real love for doing it.
I’ve been nominated by Ali over at What Ali Sees who thinks I display these things. Thank you Ali, I really appreciate it. I enjoy reading your tips and tricks about travel, even though I do not have children or a partner. I pass them on to the people I know who do have young families though. I’m all for encouraging people to travel and that shouldn’t stop when you have children, though forgive me if I cringe a little if a child sits next to me on a long haul flight.
- Be a good person and publicly thank the person who nominated you, linking to their blog so everyone else can see how great they are.
- Select 5-10 nominees you think are deserving of this award and notify them via social media so they can feel good about themselves too.
- Tell all of these people 7 random things about yourself, and ask your nominees to do the same. Learning about others is fun!
So as per the rules, I need to pick seven things about myself and share them with the world, keeping in mind my mother reads this. As I am an innocent lamb in her blessed eyes, I shall keep this PG13.
1. I LOVE LEARNING
I’m the guy who stops to read the signs while wandering around, and still wants to know more. I go through small museums and galleries to find out about places I’m visiting. It feel like it gives me a connection with the place, a deeper understanding and helps to keep the memory of things alive. I want to know what it was like when people settled somewhere, and where they came from. What was life like compared to now? I want to know how things works. How does London Bridge raise and lower. I know it definitely does, but I need to see the schematics. Maybe I like sounding like an insufferable know-it-all when someone asks a question and I can answer it, because I read it on a sign three minutes ago. That happens a lot. People think I’m a lot smarter than I really am.
2. I AM AN INTROVERT AND GENERALLY REALLY SHY
Yes, definitely shy and introverted. It has made travelling interesting sometimes. Not to the point where I can’t talk to people at all, but I warm to people really slowly and can be quite quiet until I get to know someone. People sometimes assume I am arrogant or grumpy. That is quite different to how I feel about myself. I feel I am much better at writing than I am at speaking.
3. I’M A BIT OF A MONGREL, LIKE EVERYONE ELSE
I have Maori, Croatian, British, Irish, French, German and Scandinavian ancestors. That I know of. I can trace my genealogy back a number of generations. Being from New Zealand, and being part Maori, it was impressed on us to learn our ancestry, and considered polite to learn about the ancestry of people we meet. It is like saying “tell me about where you are from and who your people are” and I find it fascinating. I believe knowing how racially mixed we all really are would go a long way towards making peace.
4. I DO CROSSFIT
There, I said it. I had to mention it in my blog at least once so everyone knows, otherwise the crossfit temple masters will punish me and I will be banished to the pain cave to do 60kg clusters until I puke. ALL HAIL OUR OVERLORD AMRAP EMOM.
I also love rock climbing, hiking, snowboarding, and falling off surfboards. I have just recently started diving, and I want to learn how to ride a horse, beyond getting into a saddle and letting the horse walk.
5. I WANT TO OWN A BACKPACKERS
One day I want to own a backpackers on a tropical island, and spend my days taking other travellers diving and fishing and hiking around beautiful places. I want to spend my evenings sharing stories and being filled with wanderlust. One day, once I have seen enough and feel it is time to stop moving around. If that day ever comes.
6. MY FAVOURITE TRIP
If I had to pick any single trip, my favourite travelling experience thus far has been with Tao Experience in the Philippines. It was relaxing, adventurous, enjoyable, and I got so brown I looked like a local. It was an amazing trip with amazing people. There are too many things to describe in one paragraph, but if I could relive that trip I would do it in a heartbeat.
7. I WANT TO BREAK FREE
Whenever I vacuum my house, I can’t help but sing I Want to Break Free by Queen. That video clip. I listen to all kinds of music. I mean all kinds. From classical to country, from hip hop to metal. By far the most common would be some deep, driving dance music. However, as soon as I pull out the vacuum, Freddy Mercury appears in a leather mini skirt and fishnets. Dammit that man could fucking sing!!
Now on to the nominations! I have to pick a bunch from the huge number I have been following over the last while.
