PHOTOS OF SCOTLAND

That’s right. I put a cow as the photo. Not just any cow though. This is a highland coo…er…cow. They are pretty cool looking, but the rest of Scotland is cool as well. Check out this blog post for my photos of Scotland.

THINGS I LIKED DOING IN SCOTLAND

I’ve spent a few weeks in Scotland and I’ve loved it. My only complaints have been the Australian dollar doing a last minute running nose dive, and leaving the sunny skies of Sydney summer behind in exchange for the depressing depths of a Scottish winter. Here are some things to do in Scotland!

THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL FRINGE

In 1946, seeking to take advantage of crowds from the Edinburgh International Festival, eight theatre companies turned up, completely uninvited. A bunch of scavengers really. These companies hired smaller venues, and performed during the same three weeks. Unknowingly, this was the birth of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and, close to sixty years later, it is now considered the largest arts festival in the world.

FIVE DAYS ON SKYE AND THE OUTER HEBRIDES

If you are going to Scotland, you should see more than Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness. I spent five days on a road trip with some friends, travelling through the Isle of Skye and the Outer Hebrides. I could easily have spent more time here, and envied the people who were working their way slowly through in campervans. If you want a peaceful holiday away from it all, this is worth checking out.

THINGS TO DO IN EDINBURGH

Edinburgh, capital of Scotland, home to the national parliament and seat of the Scottish royal monarchy; an old city embodying the stoicism of its people, resting in the relatively temperate climes of the North Atlantic Gulf Stream. You wouldn’t think this though, while wandering around on a mid-winter afternoon in the sleety rain, freezing your ass off. Here are some things I can recommend from personal experience, even in the middle of winter.
